MAKER SPOTLIGHT: Nia King

We are excited to welcome Nia King for another year at Magic Makers!

“I am a queer person of color whose work is political and is about building a platform to lift up other political queer and trans artists of color. My work explores issues of race, class, gender, queerness, transness, disability, and religion.

Much of my work is about trying to make a living as a political queer artist of color. I am also interested in the work of political artists of color more generally.

I have two self-published books of my interviews with queer and trans artists of color, Queer and Trans Artists of Color, Volumes 1 & 2. I also sell a variety of zines, some of which are interview-based and some of which are more personal about trying to make a living as a queer political artist of color.

I will also have a couple books by friends who are trans women of color for sale: Small Beauty by jia qing wilson-yang and Fierce Femmes and Notorious Liars by Kai Cheng Thom. Both books are published by a small press in Canada (Metonymy) and are hard to find in the US.”

Nia will be vending on Sunday Dec 10th. Check out more of their work at the sites below
