As a queer woman of color, my work is made by and for queer woman of color. It is imperative that my work continues to carve sacred/safe space and representation for us porque sí existimos.

At the moment I am creating a piece that represents The Mission’s most Iconic women artists–Viva Paredes, Olga Talamante, Juana Alicia, Cherrie Moraga, Yolanda Lopez, Amalia Mesa-Bains, Lorraine García-Nakata, Carmen Lomas Garza, Ester Hernandez, and Celia Herrera Rodriguez.

My challenges in creating anything that unapologetically represents ‘the woman’ as perfection is the misinterpretation of what the work is trying to do. Rather than perfection being the goal, ‘perfection’ is something we already possess. In whatever manifestation, or part of our evolution that we show up as, it is perfect.

I am excited to bring art work that represents the manifestations/lives of queer womanhood.
